Tirumala Rathasapthami is a famous Hindu festival celebrated in the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is celebrated on the seventh day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Magha, which usually falls in the month of January or February according to the Gregorian calendar.

The festival is also known as Surya Jayanti or Arasavalli Suryanarayana Swamy Kalyanotsavam, and it is dedicated to Lord Surya (the Sun God), who is believed to have visited Lord Venkateswara (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu) on this auspicious day. The festival is also known as “Ratha Sapthami” as it is believed that on this day, Lord Surya travels in his chariot drawn by seven horses towards the northern hemisphere, marking the beginning of the Uttarayana period.

On the day of Tirumala Rathasapthami, the temple is decorated with flowers and lights, and devotees from all over the country gather to witness the grand celebrations. The festival begins early in the morning with the “Surya Prabha Vahanam” procession, where the idol of Lord Surya is taken out in a chariot decorated with flowers and driven by priests. The chariot is pulled by devotees and is accompanied by musicians and dancers who perform traditional dances and songs.
